Polymer clay is one of the most rewarding craft materials. It is pliable, does not dry in the air, and once baked it becomes hard and durable. You can make jewellery, ornaments, figures and magnets.
What do you need?
- Polymer clay – a few colours to start.
- Cutters – PLA ones are precise and do not stick.
- Rolling pin – for an even thickness.
- Board – smooth, e.g. glass or ceramic.
- Blade or needle – for details and holes.
- Oven – for baking.
How to start?
Knead the clay in your hands until soft. Roll to an even thickness (2–3 mm), cut with a cutter and lift gently. For jewellery, make a hole with a needle before baking.
Baking
Bake at the temperature on the packet (usually 110–130°C) for 15–30 minutes. Do not exceed the temperature – the clay can burn. Let it cool before finishing.
Finishing
Sand the edges with fine sandpaper, paint with acrylics or seal with varnish. For jewellery, add metal rings and clasps.
